The new year started with a birthday celebration for Gordie.

The girls had MLK Day off school . . . but I didn’t . . . so they spent the day with the Olsons.

We had a beautiful snow day sometime in January. I was SO excited to sleep in, relax, and enjoy the unexpected day off . . . but it snowed alllll day and the girls had other plans.

Our entire neighborhood was filled with snow people . . .

. . . and then the entire town was sledding at McHattie park. I distinctly remember getting home from sledding at like 4pm and declaring myself DONE with mom-ing for the day. After all, it was my snow day too! ๐

This Kindergarten cutie was one of the recipients of the very first Golden Shark awards at school! She got called up in front of the entire school while our principal read the sweetest words that Emmy’s teacher wrote about her.

Penelope took an epic nap and woke up with a serious case of bed-beard!

We celebrated my birthday . . .

. . . I got our hallway ready for Valentine’s Day . . .

. . . and we had all of our besties in town together to celebrate Matty’s 40th birthday!

Our school district gets two weeks off at Christmas, one week off toward the end of February, and one week off for spring break. That’s A LOT of time at home during the crappy weather season. A lot of people head to Florida, Arizona, or the Caribbean. The Kissels loaded up and went to . . . .Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City! hahahaha

We had never taken the girls, and it’s a pretty popular place for kiddos to talk about at school, so we decided to break up the long week of mid-winter break and go for a few days . . .and of course we made the Olsons go with us!

We had separate but identical rooms. These little ladies were all excited about sleeping in their Wolf Dens!

I have zero pictures from the water park because, Good Lord, it was NOT relaxing! It was LOUD, somewhat crowded, and big! Just picture four adults chasing after four excited kiddos and taking them down crazy water slides or swimming in the pools. It didn’t matter which adult had which girl, just as long as we could keep eyes on all of them.
Since we were in Traverse City, we took advantage of the great restaurants and went out to dinner both nights. I can’t remember the name of the first restaurant we went to, but it was next to an old railroad station and had fabulous pizza . . . and they gave each of the girls their own container of Play Doh when we arrived!

The next morning the girls all had a blast at the Great Wolf Lodge Arcade. It was actually pretty fun and the girls won a ton of tickets . . . and it took a sweet forever to divide them up between each set of sisters and then figure out what each girl wanted. When Lucy and Emily had FINALLY made their decisions and got in line to pay, an older couple came up and gave us their hundreds of tickets because they had just wanted to play for fun. Um, thanks, I guess . . . but that meant we were out of line and back to the prize selecting drawing board.

Day two at Great Wolf Lodge was Matty’s actual 40th birthday. What a guy to spend it this way! haha

We celebrated his birthday by eating dinner in an igloo at a brewery. It was cold, but so pretty!

S’mores by the fire for dessert!

I don’t have any pictures of it, but the next day we drove home in an epic storm that transitioned from snow to rain to ice . . . and all the districts around us that weren’t currently on break got the next two days off for snow/ice days!
And then we went back to school and geared up for March is Reading Month, Spring Break, and Emmy’s 6th birthday! Can’t wait to share it soon!
XOXO
