Have you been on the edge of your seats since my last post??
So we FINALLY made it to Christmas vacation (which started after school on December 23rd), and we were all so excited for two full weeks off of school. After we put the girls to bed that evening Matty and I sat down to watch National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and we heard Emmy start crying upstairs. It turns out she had woken up and immediately thrown up in her bed! I’ll spare you the gory details, but sweet Emmy Roses spent the next ten hours throwing up a total of THIRTEEN times! She now holds the Kissel family record . . . previously held by Lucy who had thrown up eight times in one day.
By 10am on Christmas Eve the vomiting seemed to have subsided, but this is how Emmy spent most of the day. Of course we had to cancel our Christmas Even plans with Rita, and I was an emotional mess wondering if anyone else was going to get sick and if we’d be able to make it to my parents’ for Christmas the next day.

Did we make it? . . .
The short answer is no.
The long answer is . . . I got Covid for Christmas. ugh
I was super tired and achy on Christmas Eve, but I didn’t think anything of it because I had been up all night with Emily. After we got the girls to bed we started bringing gifts upstairs from the basement, and I noticed I was really out of breath and my chest hurt. So, at 10:00pm on Christmas Eve I took a Covid test and it was positive. Cue alllllll the tears. Not because I felt like complete s-h-i-t (which I totally did), but because I knew our Christmas Day was officially ruined too . . . as well as the next five days after that for me!
This was the girls’ cute little set up, along with all the family gifts under the tree that remained there for another week until we could see people.

I tried my best to fake it for the girls on Christmas morning, but my entire body was achy, I had a fever, couldn’t taste anything, and hadn’t slept a wink. Needless to say, when we broke the news to the girls about mama having Covid and us not being able to go to Oma and Papa’s with the rest of the family there was a lot of tears from 75% of the family. Poor Matty . . . two very sad girlies, a very sad and sick wife who couldn’t be near anyone or help in any way. It was not our family’s finest day, that’s for sure!
This was my second time having Covid, and it hit me HARD! My head and body ached so badly, but I also couldn’t sleep. The first few days were pretty miserable. Matty took the girls out to lunch the day after Christmas to give me a little peace and quiet. Thankfully, Emmy was feeling better.

On day three of my quarantine, Lucy got the stomach flu . . . and I couldn’t hug or help her. Needless to say, morale was looooow at the Kissel house.
By New Years Eve we all seemed to be on the mend, and the Olsons were brave enough to come over and celebrate with us!

And on New Years Day we finally got to see my family and celebrate Christmas!

And that night we got home and Matty got sick and was down for the count for 24 hours. Are you surprised? No. Can you blame him?! Also, no.
By now we only had six days left of vacation, but we made the best of it. One of the highlights was meeting my mom, Carla, and the kiddos at Great Lakes Crossing to do some shopping and eat lunch at the Rainforest Cafe.

And we ended our vacation with the girls spending the night at my parents’ house while Matty and I went to a Red Wings game.

Ugh, there’s always next year, right?! ๐
We went back to school on January 9th and hit the ground running! More on that next week.
XOXO
