Happy Thursday!
We have less than two weeks until Lucy starts Kindergarten, and we are soaking up every last bit of summer. It’s super hot again, but we’re still hanging tough outside!
It was so hot on Monday evening that Penelope’s puppy class got cancelled. We suddenly found ourselves with a free evening . . . so it was the perfect time to go out for ice cream!

We spent the day at my parents’ house on Tuesday, and they took the girls fishing for the first time. The Kissel girls will fish . . . but they have to be wearing princess dresses!!

Matty said he used to fish at this same pond 30 years ago using a stick, string, and corn! The girls used a bamboo stick, fishing wire, and beef treats. Some things never change . . . except that Matty used to catch a lot of fish and the girls didn’t catch any.

They weren’t too upset, though, because there was a playground near the pond that was calling their names!

My parents’ neighbors have this little wishing well in their yard, and the girls love to go check it out. Lucy said she was going to make a wish, and if this isn’t the sweetest wishing pose you’ve ever seen then I don’t know what is! I’d like to think she’s wishing for a great Kindergarten year . . . or a loving relationship with her sister . . . but most likely it was for a bow and arrow set or a unicorn.

After lunch it was time to swim! My dad had some surgery that kept him out of the pool for a lot of the summer, but he made his triumphant return with all the grandkiddos on Tuesday.

See the kitty pillow on the left? My brother and Carla gave it to Emmy on her first birthday, and she’s slept on it every night since. It’s been washed at least once a week for the past two and a half years! It’s lost half its stuffing and has a few holes. Kitty’s condition was causing Emmy much distress, and I finally convinced her it was time for a new one. Kitty Pillow 2.0 arrived this week, and of course we had to get Lucy one too. Emmy hugged her old kitty pillow tight, tearfully said “I love you kitty pillow, I’ll always remember you,” and then threw it in the trash. That’s my girl!

And this picture is just to show the beautifully presented salad I made for dinner last night. Marinated flank steak is a favorite of ours to grill. It’s great by itself, in salads, or in steak burrito bowls . . . which is how we’ll eat the leftovers.

I can’t even believe I’m typing this, but word on the street is that BOTH girls are spending the night at my parents’ house one night this weekend. Matty and I don’t even know what we’ll do! Typically, I’d use this time to get a bunch of housework done, but I think both of us are craving quiet time together and some relaxation. We’ll get to the house stuff eventually, but quiet relaxation for any extended period of time is a rare commodity for us!
Have a great weekend!
