Happy Thursday, friends!
We got home late yesterday afternoon from a fun four days at the cottage. Due to some things going on here at home, we’ll be staying in town for the 4th rather than going to the lake. But we couldn’t resist the AMAZING weather we’ve been having so our little foursome headed to the cottage on Sunday morning for some fun in the sun . . . and a really warm lake!
It’s quite rare that it’s just the four of us at the cottage, and we took advantage and decided to do a little day trip to Frankfort. Matt’s Aunt Marie lives there, and he grew up vacationing on Crystal Lake. It’s only a two hour drive from the cottage, so we headed out bright and early Tuesday morning for some fun on the shores of Lake Michigan!

We arrived a little after 11:00 and decided to do lunch at Storm Cloud Brewery first. We got there right when they opened and had no trouble getting a socially distant table outside. The girls did a great job wearing their masks to walk through to get seated, and then we were able to take them off.

Both girls wanted to sit next to Matty for lunch, and I didn’t mind at all! ๐ He kept himself busy filling waters, wiping up spilled water, and passing out markers and coloring sheets. Honestly, though, we also talked about how easy it is to take the girls out to restaurants now compared to a few years ago.

After lunch it was off to Lake Michigan!

We got a great spot and headed right for the water. It was calm, clear, and not even THAT cold. We all ended up going in the deep water and going under to cool off.

These little ladies might get on each other’s nerves on a regular day, but man do they have a great time together on special outings!

Emily could have sat and filled up buckets of sand all day long. Also, it turns out making a solid sand castle is harder than we thought!

The girls played. We soaked up the sun and watched them. It was a great time at the beach!

Matty used to take vacations to Crystal Lake with his family, and he wanted to show the girls. We walked up a little nature trail . . .

. . . and popped out right here! See Matty holding both girls’ hands? I snapped this one quick pic before leaving my phone in our bag and joining them for a long walk out into the lake. It is so shallow and clear, and the girls had a blast swimming over the waves and splashing.

And then we drove across the street to Aunt Marie’s house. She greeted us with snacks, dinner, and banana splits for dessert!

It was seriously the best day!
I hope everyone has a great 4th of July weekend! One of our neighbors is putting on a fireworks display for everyone on Saturday night. Our plan is to have a low key, chill day so that the girls can rest up and stay awake to see their very first fireworks!
XOXO
