Happy Monday, friends!
We are taking it easy today after an exhausting, but SO fun, four days. It’s too much to include all in one blog post, so today I’m going to focus on our BIG NEWS from last week . . . we’re getting a PUPPY!!!
I know. I’m surprised too.
After we lost Snort and Sydney a little over two years ago, I swore off dogs for good. They were both a little high maintenance and shed like crazy. BUT, both Matty and I grew up with dogs, and we both feel it’s important for our girls to grow up with dogs. Besides being a constant companion, it will help them learn responsibility and compassion for animals.
Lucy LOVES animals, and it’s been on my heart for awhile now that she needs a pet. I’ve also been having little thoughts here and there that I would like to have a dog in the house again. I started bringing it up with Matty, and he thought I was out of my mind. But I wore him down over time and we started researching breeds. My friend Marie told us about a Cavapoo (Cavalier King Charles mixed with a Poodle) she had seen, and we looked up the breed and we were SOLD. It took awhile to find a breeder, and we happened to come across one in Toledo that was about to open a waiting list for a litter due in May. We put down a deposit and began the waiting game for the puppies to be born.
The puppies were born on May 20, and we picked out a red and white female. We are always talking with the girls about a hypothetical dog that we’d get some day, and Lucy said she’d name a dog Penelope Pudding. We loved that name, and so that’s what we’re going with!
We don’t get to bring Penelope home until mid July, but we got to go visit her for the first time on Thursday morning! It was so hard, but we didn’t tell the girls a thing about getting a puppy until Thursday morning when it was time to get dressed and go.
They were SO EXCITED!

We’re getting a PUPPY!!!!

We’d gotten pictures of her every week from the breeder, but I could not even handle how PRECIOUS she was in person. Matty kept saying, “That’s the cutest puppy I’ve ever seen!”

Look how tiny she is! She weighed in at 2lbs 10oz on the day we visited her.

Toward the end of our visit, she fell asleep on Emmy’s lap and Ems was in Heaven! Look how sweet!

Penelope Pudding is the sweetest little puppy ever, and we can’t wait to bring her home!

I know, I know, it’s not going to be all cute puppy pictures and cuddles. Our girls are wonderful sleepers, fully potty trained, and getting more independent every day . . . and now I’m pretty much heading back to the newborn stage, except instead of getting up in the night to cuddle a warm baby in a cozy rocking chair I’ll be taking a puppy outside in the dark. I’m ready. I’m excited. I’m committed. And I’m reading allll the books. We’ve never had a puppy from such a young age before, and I’m determined to raise her well!
Phew, that was a lot! And visiting Penelope was just the tip of the iceberg in terms of our super fun weekend. Check back tomorrow for a bonus post all about what else we’ve been up to.
Oh, and if you have any tips or tricks for bringing home a new puppy, PLEASE send them my way! ๐
XOXO
These pics with Penelope are precious!!! She’s so cute and you guys all look soooo happy! I’m feeling more open to liking dogs right now so I’ll have to come out for a few visits with Penelope just to be sure ๐
