Spoiler alert: It involves a lot of outdoor time and ice cream.
Except for yesterday when we FINALLY got some much needed rain, the weather has been dry, sunny, and HOT. We’ve been taking advantage, but I forgot how gross I feel when I’m outside with the girls all day long.
Our neighborhood pool still isn’t open, but we’ve been finding other ways to keep cool. So kick back, relax, and enjoy the cuteness!
Sisterly love at its cutest!

We’ve been taking lots of family bike rides lately.

Last Tuesday was SO hot and humid. Except for bathroom breaks, we were outside playing in the water from 10:30-5:00. That was my plan because Matt left for golf league at 5, so then I took the girls in, gave them dinner and a bath, let them watch a show, and put my two tired turkeys to bed by 7:30. #momwin

Working from home has its perks!

Hudsonville Blue Moon has been a huge hit at our house.
Lucy said she wanted to take a selfie on my phone. This one’s a keeper!

The one day that I tried to lay down and snooze while the girls were resting, Lucy snuck out of her room to find me and I hear, “Mama, let’s take a picture. I already typed in your address!” (She meant the code to unlock my phone.) I was mildly annoyed, but I couldn’t say no.

Last Thursday we got to see cousins for the first time since before quarantine! All five of them had a great time swimming in Oma and Papa’s pool.

Four of them had a great time making a human caterpillar with Carla. Emmy was not having it!

A much needed ice cream break after swimming.

These two cuties worked together to fill this bucket with flowers picked from Oma and Papa’s bushes.

Our parks opened back up in Oakland County on Friday, and we hit up the park in town bright and early. We definitely avoided the crowds (we were practically the only ones there!), but we didn’t avoid the heat.

We got home from the park a little before noon and the girls ran through the sprinkler for a bit before we had lunch and went on a bike ride. We tried roller skating and playing ball later in the afternoon, but decided it was just too hot . . . but not before Matty snapped this awesome picture!

On Saturday morning I baked cookies to take to a dinner at our neighbor’s house, and my cute little helper was sneaking some of the chocolate chips! #likemotherlikedaughter

Our neighborhood gathering started with a bunch of us ladies wanting to get together, but then we felt bad excluding the husbands so we included them with the thought that they’d keep an eye on all the kiddos running around. Matty made himself right at home for “ladies night!” ๐

The house we were at had a play set, and Lucy finally figured out how to swing herself . . . and Emmy isn’t too far behind! We arrived at 5:00, had pizza, drinks, and the kiddos had ice cream. At TEN O’CLOCK, we were the first people to head home. The girls had a blast!

Sunday morning we were up and on the road for a quick cottage trip. I knew we’d arrive right at lunch time, so I packed our lunches before we left so we could get right on the boat.

Remember that 10:00 bedtime the previous night??

Emmy was still going strong, but both girls were bathed and fast asleep in bed by 7:15 Sunday night. It was glorious!

We got back from the cottage Tuesday afternoon, and then on Wednesday morning we went to Lucy’s preschool to pick up her things. Lucy definitely blossomed in preschool, and I’m so sad that we lost that momentum. She was happy to get to see her teacher again, though!

After an incredibly windy morning and afternoon, we finally got a storm yesterday around dinner time. There were a bunch of us out on our porches, and our sweet neighbor snapped a picture of us.

Things escalated quickly, and before I knew it the girls and Matty were running around in the rain.

But then the lightning started and they had to come in.

Phew! That was a lot!
I’m going to a little outdoor gathering with a few of my mama friends this evening, and to say I’m a little bit excited would be an understatement!
Have a great weekend!
XOXO
