Happy Thursday!
We’re cruising right along this week, just living the quarantine life. Tuesday was a welcome change of pace as we celebrated our littlest lady turning three!
I put up our minimal decorations on Monday night. I grabbed the rainbow tablecloth, plates, and napkins at Target a few weeks ago when the Coronavirus business all started. Thank goodness I had the forethought to plan ahead! The banner was pieced together with random craft items left over from my teacher days, but turned out pretty cute!

Emily slept in on her birthday, so I got busy on her cake bright and early. There really is nothing better than making a cake at 8am . . . I mean it! I figured an unconventional birthday called for an unconventional cake, so I tried a double chocolate bundt cake. It was delicious, and I’ll do a post all about it with the recipe soon.

Our little three-year-old finally decided to get her birthday started around 9:40am! She was SO HAPPY when she woke up! phew!

Lucy was super excited to give Emily the gifts she chose for her, so we got right to it. It was a super sweet sister moment!

Lucy picked out a pack of dress up rings for Emily and also this Fingerlings Narwhal named Nelly. Emily LOVES it. . . . and so does Lucy, which has made for more than a few difficult moments when Lucy wants to play with it too. #sigh

Matty had some work to do, so I gave the birthday girl a late breakfast (oatmeal, obviously!) and got her dressed and ready for her big present from us. . .

. . . a Power Wheels car! Yes, we did. Both girls were so excited! Emily was happy to let Lucy drive first, but then quickly felt comfortable enough to drive it herself.

Our sweet neighbor was kind enough to come out and take a picture of us running around in the street following our two crazy drivers everywhere. Lucy is actually pretty good. Emmy, on the other hand, needs a little practice.

After lunch we opened a few more gifts that some family members had sent . . .

. . . and I finished Emmy’s cake! I thought it was adorable!

The birthday girl put herself down for a nap at rest time. I don’t think I mentioned last week that Emmy had been pretty sick since last Thursday. She had a pretty high fever that we couldn’t get to go down and was not sleeping at night. She woke up on Monday fever free, but had a rash all over her body and started sleeping a lot. I remember these symptoms as the same as when Lucy had Roseola when she was little, so I’m assuming that’s what Emmy had. She’s been sleeping like crazy as she recovers, which is kind of a relief during the day, but has made bed time a little tricky.

While the birthday girl napped, Matty went to pick up curbside Buddy’s pizza and salad. We had that for dinner and then got ready for our virtual party via Zoom.

The girls were so excited to see our family on the computer!

Here’s a picture of my niece, Sadie, putting the finishing touches on a cake she made ALL BY HERSELF for her family to enjoy at their house while we had Emmy’s cake at our house. Puts my cake to shame, yes!?

And check out the birthday card she made for Emmy!!
Everyone successfully sang Happy Birthday, and we had a good time eating cake and catching up with everyone. Lucy eventually moved on to go play, but sweet Emmy Roses had a second serving of ice cream and sat and chatted with family for a bit longer!

We ended the day with baths, snuggles, and Toy Story. Not a bad way to spend a birthday if you’re quarantined!!
The grandparents all saved their gifts to give to Emmy in person once we’re able to be together again, so the party will reconvene in about 30 days . . . from my keyboard to God’s ears, am I right??
The weather is taking a turn for the better as of today, so I’m sure the girls will be outside cruising the neighborhood in their new ride!
Have a great weekend! Sending you all VIRTUAL hugs and kisses!
XOXO
