Happy Monday, friends!
Today is an exciting day because Matty and I are headed to DALLAS . . . without the girls!
That’s right, folks, this mama is breaking loose for a few days! Matty is going to be in Texas for work all week, and I’m tagging a long for a few nights. He’ll be in training from 8-5, and I’ll have the entire day all to myself. And that’s a good thing!
There’s going to be reading, relaxing, shopping, and probably a road trip to Magnolia to see the silos.
Chip and Joanna, here I come!
Since I knew I was going to need time to pack, I scheduled an easy post for today that I was able to do last week. I set a reminder for last Monday morning and documented our entire day, start to finish. As I went back and looked over the pictures, it was definitely a pretty typical day for us.
Enjoy!
I’m back to my morning workouts, and I usually set my alarm for 5:30 which allows me time for one snooze session.

I started a new pilates program, which I love. Three mornings a week it’s a 30 minute class, and two mornings a week it’s a 15 minute session. On those days, I run a mile or so on the treadmill first.

She’s on the beach in California, I’m in my freezing cold basement.

After my workouts I come up and get Matty’s coffee going before going upstairs to shower.

I grabbed a quick pic of the two of us before Matty left for work. We still look tired!

I make a frittata every Sunday and cut it into five pieces for my breakfast during the week. It is delicious and reheats nicely. One piece of frittata (cut in half for microwaving purposes) and two clementines . . . five days in a row. On the weekend I eat donuts.
Just kidding!

After I ate breakfast I emptied the dishwasher . . .

. . . and got dinner in the crockpot. We were having Red Wine Beef Ragu, which is soooo yummy!

Monday is a school day for Lucy, so just before 8am I went upstairs to wake up these adorable sleepy heads!

Breakfast consisted of homemade chocolate chip muffins, strawberries, and cashews.
#balance
Side note: I make a giant batch of muffins every few weeks and then wrap them individually and freeze them. I’m proud to say that after much practice both girls are now able to get a muffin from the freezer, unwrap it, put it on plate, and microwave it for 30 seconds. They know they can only do it when mommy’s in the kitchen, and I love how proud they are of themselves!

After breakfast we head back upstairs to get dressed, brush teeth, and do hair. Emmy’s little fun buns were so cute!

By 9am we were ready to put some letters in the mailbox and get in the car.

On this particular day, Emmy and I didn’t have any errands to run while Lulu was at school so we went right back home. She really wanted to shovel the teeny tiny bit of snow on the ground so I let her have at it for a bit.

Then we came inside to color, read books, have a fashion show, and eat a snack before going to pick up Lucy from school.

Emily looks like she’s old enough to be in four-year-old preschool!

We went home and the girls played with their new sensory bin (details on Thursday!) while I made lunch.

Uncrustables, grapes, and veggie straws for the girls. Beans and rice with chicken for me.

And then we had a Moana dance party and listened to the soundtrack TWICE.

Around 1:30ish it was time for some rest time. Our routine varies from day to day, but the options include: all of us watch a movie, they go upstairs in their rooms to play together, they go in their own rooms to play, or they get quiet time in their rooms with their Kindles. On this particular day they really wanted to watch a little Moana. And since Jane the Virgin is still TAKING OVER MY LIFE, I sat on the other end of the couch with my laptop and watched an episode before starting some laundry.

The girls watched about half of Moana, and then we made some chocolate chip cookies. We made them, sampled the dough, baked them, and then I put every last one into the garage freezer. Out of sight, out of mind for all of us! I really enjoy baking with the girls and having a few bites of dough, but I don’t need three dozen cookies in the house!

The girls worked together so well doing a giant floor puzzle while I cleaned up the cookie mess.

After that we went upstairs to play for awhile, and then I spread out all of the pictures I’d printed out from our Disney trip and the girls helped me put them in their autograph books.

The girls played while I folded laundry.
Side note: This was a giant basket of the girls’ laundry. They are now in charge of finding/sorting/matching all of their socks and panties. They don’t always love it, but they do it. Otherwise I leave it all laying on the floor.

Matty got home around 5:00ish and got to work shredding the giant hunk of beef from the crockpot.

And then dinner was served!
We had ours over spaghetti squash, the girls had theirs with egg noodles.

Matty had a 6:30 haircut, and he took Emmy Roses with him so that Lucy and I could have some special time together . . . we never get that anymore!

Lucy and I played Go Fish and Zingo, and then I let her paint some “nails” with my nail polish. She loved this activity but is still pestering me to let her paint MY nails. ugh!

Back with a fresh new ‘do!

We all worked together to clean up any remaining toys, then Matty gave the girls baths while I folded a second load of laundry.

After bath we all piled onto the couch (or on me!) to watch a show or two before bed.

We put the girls to bed at 8:00, and then Matty went downstairs to work out while I got to work setting up this activity on our kitchen island for the girls to drive their princess cars on in the morning. I was pretty excited about it, but they actually didn’t love it as much as I thought they would. They had more fun pulling the painters tape off the island. #bummer

Then I showered, did a somewhat decent job of painting my nails . . .

. . . and hunkered down in bed for The Bachelor!

I managed to stay awake and finish it all before calling it a night at 10:45.

Phew!
And that’s a typical day over here at the Kissel house.
If you want to see how to dye rice to make a Valentine’s Day sensory bin, then come back on Thursday. In the mean time, I’ll be chowing down on some Tex-Mex and sleeping in a bed without a monitor on the bedside table!
Have a great week!
