Happy 2020!!!
That’s going to be a fun/easy year to say for the next 365 days.
As we start a new year (and decade!), I always enjoy reflecting on the previous year. 2019 was a pretty standard year for us, and the first one we’ve had in a long time! There were no pregnancies, births, or moves for the first time since 2013. The Kissels were quiet in 2019, and I liked it!
In case you didn’t read enough about our life while it was actually playing out throughout 2019, I’ve created a little recap for you. Except the opposite of “little.” There are a lot of pictures in this post!
Perhaps you need something to pass the time while you’re on the treadmill or need something to take your mind off that chocolate you REALLY want. #resolutions
I’ve got a nice, looooong post to keep you occupied.
Enjoy!
January
We started off 2019 by taking the girls bowling for the first time.

Lucy and I went to see Daniel Tiger Live.

We experienced subzero temperatures for several days in a row . . .

. . . and had to come up with creative ways to pass the time inside.

And on a record breaking cold day, our furnace went out and the workers had to dig up our front yard to fix a gas line.

Sweet Emmy Roses had the time of her life at Sesame Street Live!

And Lucy tried ice skating for the first time. Emphasis on “tried.

February
We started off February with a winter cottage weekend.

And then got outside for a nice walk on my birthday.

I hosted a much needed Moms Night Out.

And Emily was so proud of herself for finally figuring out how to reach the sprinkles in the pantry!

We enjoyed the snow . . .

. . . and celebrated Matty’s birthday in the classiest way possible. #tacobell

March
We enjoyed some milder weather.

Matty was out of town for work, but we still kept up our Free Cone Day tradition at Dairy Queen.

Lucy began her obsession with puzzles.

And Emmy Roses turned TWO!

April
The cousins took an epic picture with the Easter Bunny!

We dyed eggs with Oma . . .

. . . and at home.

We enjoyed some beautiful weather on Easter Sunday!

And took the girls to see Daniel Tiger Live at the Fox!

May
We found the greatest garage sale find!

Started hitting up the parks again since the weather improved.

Lucy Belle turned FOUR!

And we spent Memorial Day at the cottage.

June
Lucy held an alligator at Kite Fest, and it was one of her proudest moments!

We celebrated Matty on Father’s Day.

And we attended the most beautiful wedding ever at the Shinola Hotel downtown. This wedding is #2 on my top three things that we did this year (without our girls, that is).

Splash pad season was in full effect!

We unexpectedly got tickets from Matty’s work to the PGA tour event in Detroit. His work bought a spot to host people, and it was surprisingly upscale and awesome. It was also unbelievably hot that day, and I’ve never had so much sweat dripping off of me! This event is #3 on my top three things we did without kids in 2019.

July
We kicked off the month with a sweltering 4th of July trip to the cottage where Lucy fell in love with a litter of ten St. Bernard puppies!

The girls started summer gymnastics.

And my NUMBER ONE night of the year happened! I surprised Matty with tickets to the Carly Rae Jepsen concert as a Father’s Day/Anniversary gift, and the Heinbuchs came with us. We got a hotel room and the thought of not having to worry about driving home/waking up with the girls was present enough for me. Honestly, I wasn’t even too excited for the concert. BUT . . . it turned into the best night ever!!

Look at those smiles! And that confetti!! CRJ put on a great show, and there’s nothing better than an unexpectedly awesome night out with friends!

I took the girls to the Detroit Zoo . . .

. . . and we celebrated one year in our new home!

We ended the month by celebrating Pop’s birthday!

August
August started out with a bang because it was our annual trip to Cedar Point!

The rest of the month was spent being outside as much as possible!

We had a great adults only trip to the cottage.

And then we headed back to the cottage for Labor Day.

September
Labor Day Weekend trickled into September . . .

. . . and we had our first ER visit with Lucy got thrown off a horse at the apple orchard.

We celebrated Grandparents’ Day . . .

. . . and BOTH girls started school!

Matty had his annual friends golf weekend.

And we went to our town’s Pumpkin Fest parade.

October
I took Lucy on her field trip to Kensington Park.

We took a pretty darn cute family picture!

And made the six hour trek to Bloomington, IL to check our Sarah and Brian’s new house and eat popsicles on their porch.

We took a tractor ride to pick pumpkins . . .

. . . and had a visit from Aunt Dorothy when she drove up from Florida.

We took the girls trick or treating in town . . .

. . . and then survived the coldest/rainiest/windiest Halloween night!

November
We celebrated Oma’s birthday . . .

. . . and had a blast at the Novi Pet Expo.

Emily took the greatest school picture ever!

We celebrated Rita’s birthday . . .

. . . and then Thanksgiving!

And Carla and I did our annual cookie order.

December
We had our North Pole Breakfast to welcome back Raspberry the Elf.

And then we had our big trip to Disney!!

Santa came to our clubhouse . . .

. . . and Lucy made us the most adorable Christmas gift at school!

Oma and the girls made a gingerbread house!

The cousins enjoyed unseasonably warm weather during Christmas week.

And we enjoyed some family time in between dealing with our sick girls.

Urgent care for an ear infection on Christmas Eve. ugh!

And the girls ended 2019 with cute new haircuts!!

Goodness gracious, what a great year!
Of course we had our ups and down, good days and terrible days, happy kids and crazy monsters. But, overall, we were so lucky to have a great 2019. We are happy, healthy, and ready to tackle all the adventures that 2020 has in store for us!
XOXO
