Happy Wednesday!
Today is extra special because our little Lucy Belle turns four. I cannot believe it’s been four years already! It’s crazy to see the year to year (day to day . . . second to second?!) changes in her personality. She’s growing up into someone whom I hope will (eventually) be a kind, caring, and compassionate person. It’s a work in progress! ๐
I often see these little glimmers of a sweet young lady instead of toddler, but they are coupled with sassiness and shenanigans that know no bounds. If the tv is on, then Lucy’s watching it. But if it’s not on, she is busy doing puzzles, drawing, working on letters, running around in just her underwear, and half playing with/half terrorizing poor Emmy Roses.
You know how you see posts on social media where people just gush about what an angel their child is and how amazing they are and what good siblings and geniuses and changers of the world their kids already have become by the age of five?
That’s not Lucy.
Ha!
I love her to pieces, but she is challenging and sassy and rarely compassionate. The love/hate relationship with Emily has had a bit more love lately, but Lucy can push Em’s buttons like no other. And dare I say that peeing on the floor EVERY TIME she goes to the bathroom and using the word “accidentally” every time she’s about to tell me what she’s purposely done does not a genius make.
But she’s getting there.
Three was hard for us. Me, Matty, AND Lucy. We had ups, we had downs. We had tears and tantrums and a mama who believed she was doing everything wrong. But I’m reading the parenting books, I’m talking to my mama friends, and I’m ready for year four. So far, I can tell it’s going to be LOUD! How does a child just wake up one day and start shouting everything and running around the house screaming all the time? Because that has been happening since Monday morning.
All venting kidding aside, Lucy changed our lives in the most drastic and amazing way possible. When she’s in the mood to love on you and be sweet, it will bring you to your knees and your heart will melt into a puddle on the floor. She is smart as a whip, asks insightful questions that often have me saying, “Go ask your daddy,” and can snuggle like a champion. She’s a creature of habit and loves routine (just like her mama!), LOVES dogs, and lives for sweets and carbs (duh!).
I did a little birthday interview with Lucy earlier this week, and her answers are exactly as she said them to me, and they are adorable.
Enjoy a little glimpse into the mind of our sweet four-year-old!
