Happy Monday!
Can you believe it’s April 1st already??
No April fooling on the blog! 🙂
We had a super busy weekend (actually a super busy past five days), but it was a good busy because we celebrated Emmy turning TWO!
Over the past few months Emmy declared the following themes for her birthday: Moana, Frozen, Incredibles, and Snow White (I’m not even sure where that one came from!). And the winner was . . .
UNICORNS!
hahaha
Mama got final say, and I chose unicorns. She loves them, and there was certainly no shortage of unicorn party supplies, so it worked out great!
I loved her invitations!
I bought a unicorn cake mold off Amazon. Don’t be fooled by the coloring of the cake. It wasn’t burned and ended up tasting delicious!
Friday night after the girls went to bed was cake decorating time! I had my inspiration and was ready to go.
It took MUCH longer than anticipated, but I hung in there and didn’t freak out. I finished around 10pm. Ugh! Matty sat at the island with me for awhile for moral support and to take unflattering pictures.
The finished product! I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. So I really wanted the mane to be pink, yellow, and purple. Guess who forgot to get purple food coloring, though!? And contrary to what Google kept telling us, mixing a certain ratio of red and blue food coloring together does NOT make a pretty purple!
Saturday was party time!
(The flowers were actually for ME from Matty earlier in the week. I picked myself a winner!)
Emmy had on her unicorn dress and was ready to party!
And so was her sister!
And her mama!
And her daddy!
We feasted on delicious Buddy’s pizza and salad! Emily requested that her grandmas sit at the kids’ table. It was an exclusive, invitation only, table. Just ask Carla who tried to sit there and was denied . . .twice!
The cousins played so well together!
My sweet little two year old.
Emily was so happy to finally get a suitcase like Lucy’s!
And rain boots that actually fit and are not hand me downs!
And a baby stroller of her own!
And an art easel!
My mom brought a Pin the Horn on the Unicorn game, and the kiddos had fun playing with it.
Look at that . . . I think the blindfold wasn’t the greatest! 😉
It was finally cake time!
She did great blowing out her candle and couldn’t wait to dive into the sprinkled horn of the cake . . . with her hands, of course!
We had cake and ice cream, but I also made my Mint Chocolate Brownies which were a hit! The birthday girl got to sample all the treats, of course!
Emmy snuggled with Gordie . . .
. . . and Aunt Carla!
The party ended around 2:30, and then we cleaned up and worked on a special project that took the rest of the day! ugh! More on that later in the week, though.
Yesterday was Emmy’s actual birthday, and Lucy gave her a present when they woke up.
The picture isn’t the greatest, but it’s a Moana sun hat! Sisters know best!
We gave Emmy a new scooter a few weeks ago, but we had one other surprise for her yesterday. I told her to close her eyes while Matty brought it out, and she really committed!
Bunk beds for her babies!
Emmy LOVES to play with her dollies! Now in addition to reading four books and doing stuffy roll call before bed, we get to wait as she tucks in two babies.
Originally I thought we’d take the girls to Sky Zone or go bowling to celebrate Em’s birthday. Honestly, though, we (or maybe just me??) were so tired from our busy couple of days that we didn’t feel like committing to anything. Emmy’s still young enough that she didn’t really expect to do anything, so we took advantage of that and just let the girls play most of the day.
Of course, she did get another piece of cake at dinner and we sang to her again!
We had such a great time celebrating our sweet Emmy Roses! So far, she’s showing no signs of the terrible twos and here’s hoping it stays that way.
Have a great Monday!
XOXO
