Happy Wednesday!
Ever since I started linking up with Sheaffer and Shay for these What’s Up Wednesday posts, I’m even more aware of how quickly the months are flying by! It seems like I JUST did my February post!
It seems as though we’ve had a fairly boring month, but here we go nonetheless!
We’re back to our healthy meals. Boo! Yay!
With Matty being gone all last week, I kind of took some time off from meal planning and prepping and snuck in a few not-so-healthy meals that we don’t normally eat. I’m looking at you, breakfast casserole!
While it was nice to not have to do our weekly Saturday night sit down where we plan everything out, go over the contents of the fridge, and make our grocery list . . . I found that I actually had to think MORE than usual about our meals because everything wasn’t in the fridge ready to go!
We’re back to our old routine this week but, honestly, there’s nothing mind blowing on the menu to share a recipe for. We’ve had a frittata, a crock pot recipe that I wasn’t super crazy about, and a pork tenderloin with undercooked sweet potatoes and over cooked broccoli. My cookbook hits shelves soon! ๐
I think we might be going out tomorrow night, which is pretty exciting!
With Emmy’s birthday coming up, I’ve been thinking a lot about when she was born and what a HARD transition it was for us at home. Lucy went a little crazy and was fussy all the time, Emmy cried NONSTOP unless I was wearing or holding her (and sometimes that didn’t even help!), and the sleep deprivation along with Emmy’s colic almost did me in. I can look back at it fondly now. . . sort of. I’m proud of how far we’ve come the past two years!
After we put Lucy to bed and finished chores, Matty would usually hold Emmy for a few hours while I napped on the couch until she inevitably started screaming again. It looks like a pretty sweet gig in this picture, and some nights it was, but more often than not that beer got set aside and he tended to a crying baby.
Lucy hated the baby carrier so I didn’t have high hopes for Emmy using it, but it turns out it was the single most important baby item we had once she was born!
For some reason I remember this night very clearly. It was about 10:30, I was so tired and had finally gotten Emmy to stop crying. Matty and I just stared at one another for a few seconds because we knew from experience that if I sat down, laid her down, or tried to hand her to Matty she would start up again. I was quite literally stuck! Rather than cry about it, we just laughed and snapped a picture!
Another vivid memory from this picture! It was late on a Friday night, and we were finally able to start our evening chores after getting a crazy Lucy and a fussy Emmy settled down. Lucy had herself one heck of a tantrum earlier in the day. I remember I was sitting at the kitchen counter pumping, which Lucy hated because it took me away from her, and she threw a huge tantrum and dragged her play kitchen across the room!
I mean, it probably would have been easier to just strap Lucy on to my back!
So that’s what I’ve been thinking about lately. Now, Emmy has turned into a pretty awesome sleeper and Lucy tolerates her sister for the most part. ๐ What a difference two years makes!
This may be a weird one, but I’m loving a new toy that I picked up for the girls a few weeks ago. I had these in mind for Emmy’s birthday, but then needed some sort of distraction when the girls were losing their minds every five minutes a few weekends ago. I pulled these bristle blocks out, and they’ve been a hit ever since!
Playing outside!
I can already see how much less productive we’re going to be in the spring and summer. When it’s nice out we just want to be out playing and chatting with the neighbors.
Taxes!
We are usually pretty good about getting them done early, but for some reason we keep putting it off this year. It’s gonna happen soon, so I better get ready to shuffle through all that paperwork!
Redoing Lucy’s room!
We painted it last weekend, and it looks great! Her new bed is due to arrive Friday along with several different curtain options. Her new comforter arrived last week, and it’s just the cutest. I can’t wait to have it all finished and show it to you!
Emmy’s 2nd birthday is on Sunday!!
I’ve been prepping for a few weeks now, and we’re ready to celebrate our girl all weekend long!
We finished The Office, and it feels like there’s a void in my life now.
We started watching season three of True Detective. It’s good and is keeping my attention, but it’s definitely a downer because it involves the disappearance of two young children. Oh, and it’s proving difficult for me to stay awake for the entire hour long episode. No surprise there!
As for what I’m reading, if I’m being honest, these are the books that I read the most lately.
Emmy is obsessed with these four books. She likes us to read them to her before bed, and I usually read them to her again when she wakes up in the morning. It’s been a few months now, and she’s showing no interest in letting me change any of them out!
I’m sloooowly making my way through The Third Wife. I like it a lot and have no excuse for why I’m going at a snail’s pace. I just haven’t made reading a priority lately, but I’d like to change that.
Honestly, I’ve been listening to a lot of fussing, crying, tantruming, and arguing the past few weeks. Here’s hoping the soundtrack changes SOON!
Oh, and I literally just listened to Matty do a pretty spot on impression (mockery??) of my “voice” and the way I write things on this blog. It’s a real shame that I don’t have it recorded for all to hear.
NOT BOOTS!
I’ve decided I’m done with them! Unless it’s raining, then I’ll wear my rain boots. But as for winter boots?? Bye! See ya next winter!
My spring shoe collection will be a rotation of the following three shoes.
There is no better shoe to throw on quickly and go outside to play with the kiddos. These babies are SO comfortable! And they last forever. I think I’m going on my fourth year with my current pair and I wear them all the time!
These are definitely a splurge . . . which is why they were the perfect gift to put on my birthday wish list! I wanted a black shoe that was super comfy and casual, but a little nicer looking than my Skechers.
Yes, the style is a bit redundant, but everyone is making shoes in this style right now! I like it a lot because I think this type of shoe looks great with both jeans and shorts. I’ve had these in my Zappos and Nordstrom carts for quite some time now and always check to see if they go on sale. The other day I hit the jackpot and got them on super sale for $40 at Zappos! I think they’re currently $55, which isn’t too shabby either. They have memory foam in them, and it’s like walking on a cloud.
Did you stick it out to the end of my shoe love story?
If so, thank you, and I’ll wrap it up now!
Celebrating Emmy Roses!
Easter!
We’re decorated and ready to go, and I’ve got a post scheduled for next week to talk about all things Easter.
Not too much.
Just gearing up for spring time!
Oh, I almost forgot! I saw there was a bonus question: “What’s your favorite Easter side dish?”
Hands down, my Aunt Donna’s cheesy potatoes! She makes them for Easter and Christmas, and they always take up more space on my plate than they probably should!
XOXO
