All Things Valentine’s Day!!

February 4, 2019 by Molly Leave a Comment

Happy Monday, friends!

We’re heading home from the cottage today so I’ll be back with all kinds of pictures from our weekend on Wednesday.

In the meantime, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, so today’s post is dedicated to all things love!

I know a lot of people think Valentine’s Day is a Hallmark holiday, and maybe it is, but I love it!

I don’t find anything wrong with taking one day out of the year to remind yourself to tell others that you love them. And if you want to do it with flowers, chocolates, jewelry, massages, or offerings of babysitting so I can grab a nap . . . then so be it!
Seriously, though, if you’re looking for ways to make Valentine’s Day a little fun and festive for you and your family, you’ve come to the right place!
Sit back, relax, and see how the Kissels do Valentine’s Day.

Decorations

I put up some minimal decorations about midway through January. Our new home (and dog-free lifestyle) are really allowing me to up my decorating game!

Pretty much all of my decorations are from Hobby Lobby or Target.

I bought a super cute mason jar from Hobby Lobby to put these red scatter hearts in . . . and then promptly shattered it on the side of our kitchen island as I was unloading the bags. One of my flower vases from under the kitchen sink made a decent replacement, I suppose.

See my phone creeping up in the mirror as I was ducking down to take this picture? Let it never be said that I’m not a professional blogger. #yeahright
I’m not crazy about the color or size of the pillow on the bench compared with the size of the rest of the space, so I’ll change things up for next year.

I also have this same wreath on our front door. It looks great against the black paint, but I’m not feeling the need to battle the arctic temps to go snap a picture!

Gifts

Because our birthdays are like bookends for Valentine’s Day, Matty and I don’t do gifts for one another, but you better believe I pick out a few fun things for the girls!

I bought these cute boxes at Hobby Lobby last year and plan to use them over and over again.

This year, they’re each getting a big stuffy ($6 each, courtesy of Kroger!), a night gown, book, and a little piece of candy.

As of the time I published this post, the night gowns hadn’t arrived yet. They’re from Gymboree and will probably be the last thing they ever have from that store. I was so sad to hear that they are closing . . . no one has better pajamas than Gymboree!

The girls have been really into night gowns lately, and I think they’ll love these.

I’m not going to include a link to the Gymboree night gown because the stock was low ten days ago when I ordered them. Here’s another cute option that I was considering . . . and probably would have gone with except that Old Navy doesn’t offer free shipping unless your order is over $50, and I was too lazy to actually go to the store!
Lucy will be getting this Fancy Nancy book. When I published this post it was currently out of stock, but maybe that’s changed since then.
Emmy is getting I Love You, Little Pookie.
We love Sandra Boynton books around here, and this one is super cute!
This Minnie Mouse book was a close second for Emily and would be a great choice for a little Minnie lover.
I don’t have any baby Valentines this year, but if I did, these two books would definitely be good choices.
Babies Love Valentines
Our girls loved these books as babies!
10 Little Kisses
Just try to resist those pigs . . . I dare you!
Food
I always try to make something a little festive on Valentine’s Day. I have a muffin pan with twelve individual heart shaped muffins on it that I always use. I’ve made muffins for breakfast before and I’ve also made heart shaped cornbread to go with chili for dinner. The one thing I don’t like about my muffin pan is that it’s very shallow. I found this option on Amazon and might just have to buy myself a little Valentine’s Day gift!  😉
If you’re more in the mood to make a whole cake or a giant brownie, then this heart shaped pan is for you!
Finally, you can always just buy some cute Valentine’s Day cupcake liners or some heart shaped bowls from Hobby Lobby or the dollar store and make some Cupid Crunch!
All you need is:
1 bag of popped popcorn
2 cups Chex Cereal
2 cups pretzel sticks
1 bag Valentine M&M’s
1 jar Valentine sprinkles
1 package of Vanilla Bark
In a LARGE bowl, mix everything together except the Vanilla Bark. Melt the bark according to the package directions, drizzle over the mixture, and stir well.
Pour onto a large cookie sheet lined with wax paper. I usually scatter some more sprinkles on top at this point and then let everything cool.
So easy. So quick. So yummy!!
Oh, and don’t underestimate the power of cute Valentine’s Day paper plates. We’ve been using these from Hobby Lobby. I can serve a regular old PB&J to the girls, but they still get excited because of the special plate!
So there you have it, everything you always wanted to know about how the Kissels celebrate Valentine’s Day!
This year I’m hoping to start the tradition of ordering or making a heart shaped pizza for dinner. I think the girls would love it!
Have a great day, see you on Wednesday.
XOXO

Classroom Before and After

Happy First Day of School! I’m coming up for a very quick breath of air to share my classroom before and after pics. I signed my contract at 3:30pm last Tuesday . . . that’s one week ago today. There was a lot of excitement and a lot of tears. In the blink of one […]

Mrs. Kissel: 2nd Grade Teacher!

Surprise! There are three Kissel ladies going back to school this year. Emily starts Kindergarten, Lucy’s in 2nd grade…and I’m coming out of retirement to teach second grade!!! (Not Lucy’s class!) I was hired Monday afternoon, and the amount of overwhelm and range of emotions I’ve felt since then has been, well, overwhelming! To those […]
