Happy Monday!
Am I the only one who felt like yesterday was the longest day ever?? I took full advantage of that extra hour and slept for like 10 hours Saturday night. That never happens, but after a SUPER late night Friday night and then a SUPER busy Saturday, I basically fell asleep as I was crawling into bed Saturday night. My clock said 10:30, but then I switched it before I went to sleep, so it was really 9:30. And the next thing I knew, I woke up and it was 7:30am! Both girls were magically still sleeping, and it was glorious!
My neighbor hosted a ladies night at her house Friday night. It didn’t start until 9:00 and I hemmed and hawed soooo much about whether or not I wanted to go. I mean I WANTED to go, but 9pm on a Friday night is prime jammy/couch time. #thisis36
So, in the spirit of being neighborly, I decided to suck it up and go for an hour or so. . . and I walked back home around 1am! I only had two glasses of wine, but we were just sitting and chatting and the time just flew by! I regretted it at 7am Saturday morning when it was time to crawl out of bed and be a productive, functioning, patient mama!
Ok, back to the important things . . . cute pictures!
Friday morning involved a lot of playing with stuffies.
We stopped in at Kohl’s on Friday, and I officially started my Christmas shopping! I bought this bar of soap as a random gift for my dad many Christmases ago, and it’s turned into a little tradition! So far, he’s only ever gotten $1 in his bars, but one of these years it’s gonna pay off . . . I just know it!
Saturday morning was CHILLY, but we had to get these girls out of the house and running around, so we tried a cool park in Novi that we are always driving by.
The girls were all about the swings during this visit!
After the park, we went to Kroger where the girls got their weekly round of freebies: fruit samples in the produce section, cheese slice from the deli, chocolate chip cookie from the bakery, and a balloon from the floral department. We don’t let them get the balloon every week, but they did a great job while we shopped so it was their reward.
Kroger is really helping us prepare for the holiday season! Last week it was the Advent calendars, this week it was their display of Peppermint Oreos! These delicious cookies are hard to come by during the actual Christmas season, so we bought two packs and stashed them away in the basement. Peppermint Oreo Balls, here we come!
After unpacking allll the groceries and having lunch, Ems went down for a nap while Lucy and I started working on a birthday cake for my mom’s party. I tried a chocolate bundt cake recipe that was SO DELICIOUS! I’ll post the recipe this week or next.
I never let Lucy crack the eggs. However, they had a cooking day at her school a few weeks ago, and apparently Lucy’s teacher let her be the one to crack the egg into the bowl . . . and she did a great job! So, I let her give it a whirl, and she cracked all three eggs like a pro!
Please note the chocolate chip residue on her mouth!
While I finished up the cake, Lucy joined Matty on the couch for football and snuggles.
The rest of the afternoon was spent cleaning, party prepping, and finishing the cake. Oh, and pulling up the comfy chairs for snack time!
I was photographing this giant mound of deliciousness when Ems took it upon herself to step on the bottom rung of our stools and pop right up to get a better look. Everyone was ready to try this cake!
Ems was supposed to be dipping her pancake in the homemade jam, but she was just shoveling it in with her hand instead.
Ready to celebrate my mom’s birthday!
The cake was a hit . . . just ask Emmy!
Once the party was over, we cleaned up and started lunch prep for the week while Emily finished up her nap. Matty grills us up four days worth of chicken, and I steam four days worth of broccoli for each of us. #bestlunchever #not
It was way too dark outside by dinner time yesterday! We hunkered down and read some books after eating. Emmy was snuggly, and Lucy was creeping behind the lamp!
As I type this post on Sunday night, the girls are tucked into bed and Matty and I are trying to form a plan for Christmas lights here at the new house. There seems to be a “go big or go home” mentality in our part of the sub. Not like Clark Griswold big, but definitely decorating all the way to the top of the highest peak kind of big! Matty’s researching all these crazy types of bulbs and extension cords with fancy pieces and even fancier prices. I just want to hire a company to do it so Matty doesn’t have to try and figure out how to get a ladder up to the top of our very tall house! I’m sure we’ll meet somewhere in the middle and just do a little bit ourselves this year and build it up a little more with each passing season.
Update: Seriously, just as I finished typing my post Matty said, “Check this out.” and showed me this house as an example. I’m sure you’ll be on the edge of your seats over the next few weeks to see what we decide to do.
We have nothing on the calendar this week except a field trip to Great Harvest Bread Company for Lucy’s school. I’m ready to learn the ins and outs of baking bread . . . and sample some too!
Have a great week!
XOXO
Oh, and check back tomorrow morning for a great little service project idea for Christmas!
