We spent five days at the lake over the 4th of July, and there’re really only three things you need to know:
1. It was SO HOT.
2. Emmy Roses hates the boat.
3. She hates the water even more.
#ugh
When I say hot, I mean HOT. I think the coolest day there was 87 degrees, and don’t even get me started on the humidity! We don’t have air at the cottage, which has never been an issue. However, tossing kiddos in the mix makes it a little more challenging. Typically, young children don’t enjoy sitting in the water for ten hours a day like we used to do. Lucy actually handled it really well. Emmy, however, did not.
Here is Exhibit A: She hadn’t been anywhere near water in several hours. This was all sweat. At one point, she was sitting in a chair while Rita was trying to read to her, and the poor little thing just had sweat dripping down her face.
Exhibit B: When it’s 89 degrees inside the cottage at night, Emmy can’t sleep well on her own. From the first time I laid her down for nap on the first day we arrived, she immediately stood up and started screaming and never looked back. I don’t understand how sleeping/sweating all over your sweaty mama is more comfortable, but for some reason it worked.
I believe the bottom right photo was taken on the first night there . . . when Emmy was AWAKE from 2am til 10am. #lordhelpme I threw in the towel at 7am and left the girls with Matty and Rita while I napped for two hours.
One night while I was sweating it out with Emmy, Matty sent me this pic of himself eating a Dorito. #nothelpful
We did have some fun moments too. Rita and I took the girls to the park one morning. Let it never be said that Emmy Roses does not have playground style!
Lucy loved throwing sticks into the water.
And rocking on this airplane.
Emmy spent a good amount of time crawling back and forth in this tunnel.
A rare happy moment not only on the boat, but also in her life jacket! We really just don’t get what is up with this girl! She wasn’t happy on the boat, but was even more unhappy when we tried to put her in the water. Shallow water/deep water/life jacket/no life jacket/floatie . . . it didn’t matter! She wasn’t having it!
These bottles of sunscreen kept her occupied for a few minutes.
I would have sat in the water all day if the girls would have allowed it. Actually, Lucy probably would have joined me! By the end of the week she was running across the boat and jumping into the water . . . into Matty’s arms. She has made it very clear that she’s not ready to go underwater.
Unlike her sister, this little fishie couldn’t get enough of the boat and lake. Ems was crying because she didn’t want to be there, and Lucy would cry when we told her it was time to get out.
Another day, another sweaty nap.
Pizza face!
Fudgsicle face!
All of that swimming resulted in this!!
This was our third night there, and I FINALLY was able to go on an evening boat cruise. And because she had taken such a great nap, Lucy got to join us!
And just so you see it’s not all glitz and glamour on my end, I’m going to show you this little gem that Matty made. You know how some people look angelic and dreamy when they sleep? Yeah, that’s not me. At all. I had to catch a little nap whenever I could, and Matty caught me in the act. He titled this picture “Like Mother, Like Daughter.”
Grandma Ri’s water cup and straw kept Emmy happy for a few minutes on this particular boat trip.
She liked wearing the boat sunglasses . . .
. . . but wasn’t happy about posing for a picture with Matty.
The 4th of July was a scorcher. The girlies put on these dresses only because we were going to the grocery to cool off for a bit.
These dresses were from our park trip. My obsession with matching outfits may be worsening.
We took a little boat trip the night of the 4th. There aren’t any official fireworks on our lake, but the unofficial ones were pretty good!
This was definitely our hardest trip to the cottage since we’ve had kids. After the first few days, I was dreading going out on the boat because Emmy was so unhappy. Our summer has turned out to be pretty busy, so we might not get up there again until Labor Day. Here’s hoping her boating attitude (boatitude?!) has improved by then!
We have a BUSY week ahead. Emmy has her 15 month check up, I have a doctor appointment, I’m going to the Wyandotte art fair with my mom, and the most important of all . . . Lucy starts her first ballet class! She is going to look so cute . . . and fingers crossed that she won’t freak out when she has to go into the dance room without me!
XOXO
