Lucy turned two on Monday, and we had been talking about her party for quite some time. We decided a few months ago that we would do a Minnie Mouse party. I tried to plan as much as I could before Emily arrived and then did a few last minute touches as the partied approached. Overall, I was very happy with how everything turned out!
This was her invitation. Minnie Mouse and cupcakes . . . it doesn’t get better than that!
This was her second Minnie Mouse shirt on the morning of the party. The first one got covered in bubbles. #daddysfault #mamaboughtabackup
I made the banner myself and am pretty proud of it. I may have hung it several days early so we could enjoy it for awhile! You may be wondering how I had time to do the banner when we have such a colicky baby . . . I utilized my pumping sessions. Picture me sitting at our counter at 2am pumping milk and cutting out Minnie Mouse bows. I really am the coolest, don’t be jealous ๐
This is Lucy’s new “surprised” face.
Because Mother’s Day was the next day, we decided to combine the celebrations. I love our new sideboard for decorating purposes! I decorated this area for Mother’s Day. The vase and flowers on the right were my gift from Lucy. Girl can pick out some nice flowers!
This is the only picture I got of the balloons. We originally had them on the patio, but they kept getting blown over so we had to move them inside. Party tip: buy your balloons from Amazon and then take them to a store to be inflated (we used Kroger). The cost of a dozen balloons plus the inflation charge of Kroger was less than the cost of one giant Minnie balloon from Party City!
I decided not to make a Minnie Mouse cake for two reasons: 1. I wasn’t crazy about the idea of making/eating black frosting and 2. Have I mentioned my super fussy new baby? So I took Lucy to the Cupcake Station to pick out a birthday cupcake. Because it was also a Mother’s Day celebration, I made Sanders Hot Fudge Cream Puffs because both of our moms love those.
Last year my friend Erica did our chalkboard with a Lucy Belle is 1 written on it with a giraffe and a cupcake. We left it up all year because it looked great. So I just erased the giraffe/cupcake/number one and drew the Minnie Mouse head. I also updated the pictures with some of my faves from the the past year.
The weather was perfect for an outdoor party. The Minnie Mouse tablecloth and these three Minnie Mouse things on the window were our only outdoor decorations.
Check out our new retractable awning! We may have aged ourselves 20 years by getting one, but I LOVE it. We have zero shade in our backyard so this is great to sit under with Emmy while Lucy plays in the yard.
Grandma Ri bought Lucy her own little picnic table.
The Heinbuchs arrived! Inside the bag that Steph is carrying was the cutest Minnie Mouse shopping cart!
Eating strawberries at her new picnic table.
Matty, Sadie, and Lucy played hard.
If you could have seen my mom’s face when this was happening . . .
This is about as high as my mom will let Lucy go! ๐
Unfortunately, my brother, sister-in-law, and nephews weren’t able to come. My nephew, Andy, had his first baseball game and my brother is the coach. My parents brought Sadie, though, and she loved playing ball with the dogs!
My parents bought LuLu a water table, and she loves it.
This little lady slept on our bed through the first half of the party. A night of crying will really tucker you out! You don’t see me sleeping on the bed, though, Emmy!
When she did wake up, she just found other places to sleep!
Lucy wanted to eat her cupcake in her “little house.” She wanted us to sing to her, but did not want the candle lit.
She didn’t eat much of the cupcake at first, and then went back a little while later and painted her face with the frosting. Can you tell we were waaay past nap time??
Our family of four!
On her actual birthday, we had a breakfast picnic on the couch. When I asked her what she wanted for breakfast, Lucy quickly said apples, raisins, and dog bones (graham crackers in the shape of dog bones).
A little while later Oma showed up with birthday TimBits!
It was another beautiful day, so we spent most of it outside playing.
Emmy snuggled with Oma for about ten minutes before she started fussing and they went inside.
And then the day after Lucy’s birthday we got together with my SIL and Gordie since they couldn’t make the party. These two sure are silly!
I stumbled across these sandals for Lucy weeks ago. Who knew Crocs could be so cute?! They were a little bit more than what I thought someone should spend on Crocs, so I didn’t buy them. However, Carla knew how much Lucy (and I!!!) would like them so she bought them for Lu’s birthday.
And that’s it! We now have a two-year-old living in our house. It’s hard to believe it’s been two years already! Time sure does fly when you’re having fun!
XOXO
Such cute pics!! I adore the banner!!
Happy Birthday Lucy! I love everything about this post! The banner is amazing. I'm so jealous of that retractable awning, I really need to look into that. Thanks for the tip on balloons. I only have one question: where is Matt's Minnie shirt?! ๐
