What’s Up Wednesday

February 24, 2016 by Molly 2 Comments

Several of the blogs that I follow all get together and do this “What’s Up Wednesday” post once a month, so I thought I’d join in and give it a try. They answer the same group of questions every time. My answers have made this the longest blog post ever, but I hope you enjoy reading it!
What we’re eating this week . . .

Matt had a work dinner on Monday, so my mom came over to visit and we had PANCAKES FOR DINNER! This is my favorite. Matt used to enjoy this as much as I did, but over the past few years he’s not digging the breakfast for dinner anymore. Thanks, mom, for indulging me!
Yesterday we had pork chops and sweet potatoes. (Boring but healthy.)
Today we are having Crockpot Chicken Enchiladas. It is the easiest and yummiest recipe ever, and I will share it on the blog sometime soon!
What I’m reminiscing about . . .

Our gender reveal party! If you read my previous post, you’ll recall that I recently played a part in helping my friends Bridget and Brian find out the gender of their baby (BOY!). It got me thinking about last January when we found out we were having our sweet little Lucy. Matt and I found out the gender at the actual ultrasound first thing in the morning. Then Matty went off to work and my friend Jeanette and I spent the day baking cupcakes filled with pink frosting, going out to lunch, and randomly looking at one another and squealing because I was having a GIRL! It really was the best day ever!

Then in the evening we went to Matt’s mom’s house, and everyone came over wearing either pink or blue as their guess.
You guys, I wish I knew how to post videos on here because the video of everyone biting into their cupcakes is PRICELESS. Everyone’s reactions are hilarious, but there are too many people to watch all at once so I end up watching it like five times in a row. Here’s a screen shot of some reactions. My mom and dad’s expressions speak for themselves, I envision Carla thinking, “Darn it, I KNEW I should have worn the pink shirt,” and Andy is wondering when everyone will just be quiet so he can eat his cupcake in peace. Good times!
What I’m loving . . .

I’m loving that as I’m sitting here typing this I got an email that a computer bag Matt randomly listed on eBay for $75 just sold for $100! Hello, unexpected money!
What we’ve been up to . . .

Not a whole lot. All three of us have been taking turns with a bad cold so we haven’t felt like doing much. There’s been a lot of snuggling during nap time.
What I’m dreading . . .
Please refer to the “What I’m doing this weekend” section below. My answer is the same. 😉
What I’m working on . . .
An online class to keep my teaching certificate current. It’s self paced and is supposed to take 50 hours to complete, and I have until May to complete it. The topic is bullying and relational aggression. A lot of what I’m reading is actually quite interesting, but I’m bummed out about having to take that information and answer questions and create outlines and things like that.  I’m usually a pretty diligent person, but I get so little downtime that I dislike having to spend some of it working on a class. But, c’est la vie.
What I’m excited about . . .
Summer . . . because check out these two adorable outfits I saw at Von Maur! They are a bit pricier than your average baby clothes, but you can bet one of them will find its way into Lucy’s summer collection.

What I’m watching/reading . . .
I’m watching The Bachelor, and I’m not afraid to admit it. I’m a Bachelor/Bachelorette junky. It’s like the Super Bowl of love, and I can’t wait to see who wins! I’m currently Team Lauren, but as I type this I haven’t watched this week’s episode yet. . . I could see myself being swayed toward Team Caila.
Matty sits on the couch and “looks at stuff on the computer” while the Bachelor is on. He says he likes my reactions more than the show. However, he had a work dinner that went late Monday night. He called to tell me he was going to be home later than he thought, and when I lamented the fact that we wouldn’t be able to watch The Bachelor I think it should be noted that he did not tell me to go ahead and watch it without him! And, giving credit where credit is due, I believe his exact words were “That guy’s a turd” when Juan Pablo started his season . . . and we all know how that turned out!
I’m currently reading The Lion’s Game by Nelson DeMille. It’s an oldie but a goodie. Matty and I read it for the first time maybe 15 years ago. It’s almost 800 pages, but if flies by. He decided to reread it a few weeks ago and so I followed suit. I can count on one hand the number of books I’ve reread throughout my life, so that’s how you know this one is a winner. It’s pre 9/11 terrorism in NYC, and it sucks you in from the very first page.

What I’m listening to . . .

You mean besides the lullabies on the baby monitor and the humming of my breast pump? I’ve been playing some Adele lately, which I’ve been liking.
What I’m wearing . . .

My standard mama outfit: workout pants or leggings, and a comfy shirt that I don’t mind getting baby spit or food on! To be fair, I do get up and shower, put on make up, and dry my hair everyday . . . then I just put comfy clothes on. Who wants to wear jeans when you’re on the floor with a baby?! My fashion sense has flown right out the window this winter, but I’m gonna try and make a comeback for spring. Promise.
Side Note: The Reebok shirt I’m wearing was picked out by Matty as a Christmas gift, and it is definitely one of my favorite shirts right now. If the stripes weren’t so darn memorable, I’d definitely wear it multiple times a week.
What I’m doing this weekend . . .

There’s only one thing written in my planner so far: taxes. Ugh! This really should affect Matty more than me since he is the one that actually does them. But I’m the paper pusher, which means that as he goes through the program and requires certain documents, it’s my job to produce them. And when there is suddenly something missing from the folder that should be there I get all flustered because “I know I put it in there because I remember from not having it for last year that we needed it for this year so I was very careful to put it in the folder so I don’t know why it’s not there!” Ahhh!!
This is my year, though. I just know it. Last year I was SO CAREFUL. If the tax program needs to know exactly how much we paid for every pill I was given in the hospital when I had Lucy, I have it all saved. License plate renewals, receipts from repairs on the rental house, property tax info . . it’s all ready to go. Plus, we had a baby last year so that automatically should give us some money back, right?! Here’s hoping!
What I’m looking forward to next month . . .

Lucy’s been invited to her very first birthday playdate! Ella, Colt, and Greta (three of her little baby friends) all turn one in the next few weeks, so their mamas have joined forces to celebrate with the babies together. The best part? The girls are encouraged to wear party dresses!! Hand over that eBay or tax return money . . . baby needs a new pair of shoes! And a dress! And a new hair bow!
What else is new . . .
Lucy had her nine month check up yesterday.
Weight: 20lb 8.5oz . . . 82 percentile
Height: 30″ . . . 98 percentile!!
Head: 17″ . . . 75 percentile
Cheeks: Off the charts (I know, I’ve used this joke before)
She is doing great, and we got the ok to start introducing more dairy. woo hoo!
So that’s about it. I hope you enjoyed my random thoughts and pictures. We are supposed to get quite a bit of snow today and into tomorrow. Now that I’m no longer teaching, I really have no use for snow because I don’t need to sit at home and anticipate whether or not it will be a snow day!
Hope everyone is having a great week!
XOXO

Classroom Before and After

Happy First Day of School! I’m coming up for a very quick breath of air to share my classroom before and after pics. I signed my contract at 3:30pm last Tuesday . . . that’s one week ago today. There was a lot of excitement and a lot of tears. In the blink of one […]

Mrs. Kissel: 2nd Grade Teacher!

Surprise! There are three Kissel ladies going back to school this year. Emily starts Kindergarten, Lucy’s in 2nd grade…and I’m coming out of retirement to teach second grade!!! (Not Lucy’s class!) I was hired Monday afternoon, and the amount of overwhelm and range of emotions I’ve felt since then has been, well, overwhelming! To those […]
