It was a birthday extravaganza this weekend! On Friday I woke up to this delightful little bag waiting for me. Matty let me open my gift before he left for work. Inside this adorable bag I found . . .
. . . these beautiful earrings! Emerald for Lucy’s birthstone. There was also a book from Lucy called Thank You, God, for Mommies. We’ve read it several times already. Matty nailed it this year!
As the morning progressed, Lucy discovered a new trick . . .pulling her arms out of her pajama sleeves!
Dressed and ready to go for her Valentine’s Day themed play date. What a great way to spend my birthday!
Here’s Lucy with her friend Greta. Her mom had the living room floor covered with cardboard because we were going to get crafty!
Had to strip down to work with paint. I believe just before this picture was taken, Lucy had a diaper malfunction and wet all over the cardboard! #markedherterritory
Saying goodbye to her friends!
We made the cutest Valentines out of footprints!
My mother-in-law offered to come out and watch Lucy on Friday night so Matty and I could go out for a nice birthday dinner. Thank you . . . but no thank you. By Friday evening, the thought of putting on dressy clothes and leaving the house is unappealing to me. Birthday or no birthday. So we put Lucy to bed, made homemade chocolate malts, and settled in to watch the new The People vs. OJ Simpson show I had recorded. Or maybe just the first half of it, and then I fell asleep on the couch while Matt watched a movie. It’s my birthday and I’ll snooze if I want to!
Saturday . . . rested, rejuvenated, and ready to leave the house to celebrate with our parents! When it’s a cheat day and you want pizza there’s only one place to go . . . Buddy’s!
After lunch we headed back to the house to open gifts. Matt’s birthday is the 21st, so my parents gave him his gift this weekend as well. Beer and fancy beer glasses. Happy guy!
Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting! It was DELICIOUS!
My SIL, Carla, got me this adorable tote bag. It will be perfect for summer play dates or to tote (ha!) all of our stuff on the boat. Not pictured are the gifts from my parents and Rita . . . a beauty day at Nordstrom! Make up consultation, make up purchasing, and a new outfit or two . . . all while Lucy is being babysat by Oma. #isitwednesdayyet
Someone forgot her smile.
And then, after everyone left, the unthinkable happened . . . we all got to relax at the same time! Thank you, LuLu, for napping like a champ. It’s the best gift I got!
Sunday began with a Valentine’s Day photo shoot. I’ve had this on my mind for awhile. I even looked up local photographers and learned that many of them offered mini sessions for Valentine’s Day. You could got a 20 minute photo shoot with 5 digital prints for $100. Um . . . no thank you! So I dug into my old teaching bins, rustled up some decorations, and set this up while Lucy napped. I believe we ended with 200 shots, and we had all the time we needed!
Since we had the good camera out, Matty grabbed it when Lucy woke up from her nap and snapped these priceless shots. She nails the “just rolled out of bed” look.
Lots of smiles while getting dressed for her photo shoot!
So by the time I got her dressed she had moved on from smiling to high-pitched squawking, which led to a lot of pictures like this:
Or this . . .
And then she realized there were things on the wall behind her.
Almost 200 photos and nothing that totally blew my mind. You win some, you lose some.
How Lucy watches the Super Bowl.
Who needs Coldplay? This was enough entertainment for me!
What a great weekend! Three days of fun activities . . . and lots of sunshine!
Beautiful earrings and I LOVE the valentine photo shoot! I've seen the outrageous prices for those mini sessions too. I'm sure they're adorable, but seems so crazy to spend that amount on 20 minutes! Glad you had a great birthday 🙂
