How is it Sunday night already?! The weekends just fly by. This weekend (mainly Saturday) was challenging because Lucy was not feeling well and cried so much more than she normally does. Not to mention decided not to nap much, stay up 4 hours past her bedtime, and not sleep through the night. Ugh!
I want to back up to Thursday before I do the weekend recap, though. Thursday was my cookie baking extravaganza for Hood’s Hardware. Three hundred delicious chocolate chip cookies! I had a good system, and it didn’t take too long. Maybe 5 hours of baking time total.
I might have gotten done sooner, but Lucy wasn’t feeling well. Even though my mom was here all day to watch her while I baked, I still got distracted by her fussiness. That sweet baby would only sleep if someone was holding her upright . . . and Oma was happy to oblige!
Since her fussiness persisted all day, and she had a minor fever in the afternoon, I decided to take her to the doctor Thursday evening. Someone perked up right away, of course!! Nothing really wrong . . . just a cold, congestion, and likely teething all wrapped in to one.
Friday evening started off with some excitement. I had saved up enough milk to have a cheat day so we had pizza for dinner. So exciting!! Around 8:00, we were enjoying our pizza and an episode of Modern Family when we heard a loud crash/squeal sound.
(Let me pause right here to say that I’ve often complained to Matty that he only has one speed when he walks . . . slow. If we are running late for something and I’m running around the house like a crazy lady trying to get ready, Matt is moving at a very non-rushed pace. If Lucy spits up and I need a burp cloth quickly, Matt leisurely makes his way to the nursery to get one. Ten degrees and snowing outside . . . no need to rush across the parking lot to get in to the store. But let me tell you, we heard that crash and Matt was off the couch and heading for the nursery before I could even register what had happened! What a great daddy!)
So anyways . . . I had the baby monitor in front of me so I could see that Lucy was fine and that the sound wasn’t from her room. It sounded to me like it had come from outside, so I assumed there was a fender bender (we live at an intersection with a stop sign). We went outside and it turns out that a car driving down our street ran into a car parked outside our neighbor’s house and then ended up on the grass across the street. The driver of the car got out with his cell phone, and we assumed he was calling the police, but he took off! Matt called 911 and within minutes there were four or five police cars searching the neighborhood. They found the guy, and it turns out he was drunk and driving a company car. #poorchoices
Here’s a pic I tried to discreetly take without the police seeing. He certainly wasn’t going 25mph . . .the front of the car was all smashed in and the airbags deployed.
We finished off the evening with a few episodes of Fargo. Love the view from our couch!
Saturday. Oh Saturday, you go the best of me. Don’t get me wrong, there were a few good moments with Lucy, but for the most part it was a tough day. She woke up at 6am and didn’t go back down for a nap until about 3 in the afternoon . . . but not for a lack of trying on our part and screaming on hers!
I thought maybe a super cute snowman outfit would help her feel better, and it did for a bit.
When she finally fell asleep on my lap in the afternoon, there was no way I was going to try and put her in her crib. So Matt brought my blanket and a book, and I hunkered down . . . for 2 hours!
Two hours, people! I had to photograph something . . . look at that chubby wrist!
A little playtime after nap. She had crazy hair.
So after a long, tear-filled Saturday what’s the best thing to do Sunday? . . . family pictures, of course! I was pretty nervous, but Lucy did great! She even took an hour nap beforehand, which I’m sure was super helpful.
I’ve been waiting a LONG time to finally send out a photo Christmas card, so we asked our friends Ryan and Stephanie to join us for a little photo shoot in the park next to our house. Steph took the pictures, and Ryan used several props to make Lucy smile including a giant gingerbread girl, jingle bells, and a scarf. Here’s a sneak peek at a few of the ones we won’t be using for our Christmas card.
This was taken as Matty spit his gum out behind my head. Bad for the environment and our photographs!
When one of us doesn’t want to stand on the blanket, and the other one doesn’t want to move from her spot!
We didn’t take the dogs with us, but we took this little gem when we got home.
Well, that’s about it. I feel more tired tonight than I have in a long time so it’s time to call it a night. We’ve got a big week ahead of us . . . Lucy and I are hosting our first play date! I’m sure the pictures will be priceless!
